Yuchen Jiang
based in London.
Yuchen’s practice crosses sculpture, drawing, image, and installation, exploring the intersections of biology, astronomy, alchemy, witchcraft, and the history of science. Her current work centers on the rabbit as a conceptual nexus, establishing a parallel between Lepus, the eternally hunted constellation in myth, and the laboratory rabbit as a passive specimen of scientific inquiry.
Materiality is central to her visual language. By juxtaposing raw organic matter (blood, feces) with scientific apparatus, and integrating rabbit imagery from diverse cultural and art historical contexts, she isolates the tension between scientific rationality and the ineffability of ritual, between in vivo experimentation and ancient mythological sacrifice. Through this framework, Yuchen investigates the "necessary violence" humanity inflicts in its pursuit of knowledge and truth.
